Winemaking:
From fruit sourced from the prized Panorama vineyard in the Huon Valley. Alluvial/clay-based loams - Pinot Noir planting in the 1990’s - clone G5V15 (Wadenswil) - 25% layered whole bunch - wild ferment with daily pigeage - pressed to old oak barriques for 10 months elevage - no fining or filtration - minimal Sulphur - 1,800 bottles produced.
Tasting:
Brooding Pinot Noir. Violets, grapefruit peel, dried orange. Blood plums, enveloped in a bouquet of garrigue spices; sage, thyme and oregano come to mind. The tannins derived from the addition of whole bunches add a welcome structure to the wine. Drinking solidly as a young wine and will benefit from careful cellaring.
