From fruit sourced from Elsewhere vineyard in the Huon Valley. Permian era sandy loams over yellow and mottled clay subsoils - planted in 1978 (vine age 47 yrs) - dry-grown - clones: 50% D5V12, 25% 115, 25% 114 - 25% whole bunch and the remainder destemmed - wild ferment with daily pigeage - pressed to old oak barriques for 10 months elevage - no fining or filtration - minimal Sulphur - 1,100 bottles produced
Sweet-ripe fruited but curtails with layers of spice, and a hint of game meat. Highly perfumed. The palate is juicy, fleshy, has some nice chew to texture, light in that regard but enough to refresh. There’s more jammy raspberry flavours, sweet cherry, a touch of medicinal cherry elixir, aniseed and some kombu/seaweed umami going on.
