Traditionally playing a big part in port blends in its native Portugal, Touriga Nacional is finding form in the soils of Central Victoria. This fruit was sourced from the Willoughby bridge vineyard in Colbinabbin, Victoria grown by Steve Travers. The fruit was hand harvested in mid March when - 100% destemmed fruit with light daily pigeage - wild ferment and pressed to old barriques for 6 months maturation. Minimal sulphur at bottling. 75 cases produced.
Exhibiting traits from its native Portugal, this is a light (albeit dark in tone) Touriga. Juicy bramble fruits and turkish delight are upfront with lingering cedar and clove spice. The varieties natural acidity is key too ensuring the fruit doesn’t give too much weight to the wine, this is mid-week sipper to have with your bifana (pork sandwich ) in classic Portuguese style.
